Instacart’s ‘Lie Pie’ Helps You “Fake the Bake” – and Give Back This Holiday Season

The limited-edition Lie Pie kit helps Thanksgiving hosts in New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago impress without the stress, while benefitting Feeding America
Pop culture’s most iconic truth-bender, Boston Rob, shows how to “Lie Pie” like a pro
There’s a lot of pressure to make Thanksgiving perfect. But the moment the turkey timer, side dishes, and family group chat all go off at once, that calm, cozy holiday feeling quickly turns into chaos. And somehow, there’s still pressure to pull a homemade pie out of the oven, too.
This year, Instacart is giving holiday hosts a cheeky shortcut: the Lie Pie. The limited-edition kit has everything you need to pull off the ultimate holiday ruse and take one thing off your overflowing plate. Inside, you’ll find a perfectly baked pie, along with a few essentials to help sell the story – including, a packet of flour to dust the counter, a few crushed eggshells and pumpkin purée for that homemade touch, a pumpkin-scented room spray to set the scene, and a “well-loved” recipe card – making it easy to convince your guests you made it all from scratch.

Because why bake when you can believably fake?
And here’s the truth behind the lie: according to a recent Harris Poll survey commissioned by Instacart, 53% of those who take on holiday responsibilities say they’ve passed off a store-bought food item as homemade – and nearly half (47%) admit they’ve done it more than once. Turns out, a little white lie in the kitchen isn’t so rare after all.
The Lie Pie kit is Instacart’s way of celebrating and supporting the “Magic Makers” – the people who make the holidays sparkle every year. Whether you’re juggling guests, groceries, or group chats, we know all the effort it takes to make the season sing. This Thanksgiving, we’re here to help you impress without the stress.
To spread the word (and the mischief), Instacart teamed up with one of pop culture’s most iconic truth-benders. Boston Rob, the legendary Survivor and Traitors strategist who’s been charmingly outwitting people for decades, is showing everyone how it’s done with a wink, a smile, and a slice of pie.
“These days I’m focused on telling the truth – but if there’s one lie I can still stand behind, it’s pretending I actually baked a Thanksgiving dessert for my family,” said Boston Rob. “In this instance, everyone wins.”
Starting Friday, November 14, a batch of Lie Pie kits will be available for delivery in New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago for consumers who make a donation to Feeding America through GetLiePie.com. For every dollar donated, Instacart will help to provide at least 10 meals* to Feeding America, supporting families facing hunger this holiday season – because even the best lies can do a little good.
Not in New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago? Don’t fret – you can still grab a slice of the fun. Instacart is offering $10 off cakes and pies from November 12–23 with promo code LIEPIE10**, while supplies last. Perfect for anyone who wants to fake it and feast this Thanksgiving.
This Thanksgiving, save yourself the stress and give yourself the time back. Set the scene, spray the scent, and serve up a perfectly convincing pie that came straight from Instacart (your secret is safe with us).

This survey was conducted online within the United States by The Harris Poll on behalf of Instacart from September 18-22, 2025, among 2,079 adults ages 18+, among whom 1,980 plan to celebrate winter holidays this year. The sampling precision of Harris online polls is measured by using a Bayesian credible interval. For this study, the sample data is accurate to within +/- 2.5 percentage points using a 95% confidence level. This credible interval will be wider among subsets of the surveyed population of interest.
